Spotlight Sounds light up the stage at All Points East

On Wednesday, 29th May, 2019, a group of Spotlight Sounds artists lit up the stage at the All Points East music festival in front of a lively crowd at Victoria Park, London.

The line-up featured top talent from Spotlight Sounds; our artist development record label operating inside our Lansbury centre. It provides talented and career focused young artists with free access to industry-standard studio facilities, training, performance opportunities and release platforms for their music.

The show kicked off in style with a lively introductory track fronted by Taku (Spotlight Sounds artist development mentor and MC) before launching into a feel good jazzy, RnB track, ‘Carefree’ written especially for the festival by Jordanne and Skye, two highly talented singers and lyricists, mixing soul, jazz and RnB.  They later performed separately, with Jordanne performing her original song ‘Red, Gold and Green,’ which she performed in front of Mayor Sadiq Khan at the Young Londoners’ Fund launch in November 2018.

Charlie, an aspiring recording engineer who volunteers for Spotlight Sounds, DJ’d between the performances, playing tracks from Spotlight Sounds mixtapes, including artist’s Jasmine2Safi’s Monotone which aired on BBC 1Xtra.

Archna, who has been working with Spotlight Sounds for 3 years, soothed audiences with her ambient RnB, performing tracks from her latest album, ‘Case 77’, alongside the house band featuring drummer and Spotlight Sounds studio engineer Rodney Roodt and guitarist and resident record producer Oliver Thomas.

“It felt amazing, it felt like I was performing to friends, everyone was just encouraging you. You never felt lonely, you never felt like you were by yourself.  Spotlight Sounds are a great support system, they keep pushing you to do better” said the 18 year old Jordanne about the experience.

Archna also stated the importance Spotlight has had to her artist development: “Spotlight has been a great support. They bring everyone down to watch the shows. It feels good, like you’re always a part of something”.

Resident producer and musician Oliver Thomas, who oversaw the creation of Spotlight Sounds, summed up the success of the event: “It’s incredible to witness the developmental journey these artists have been on during their time working with us. Their performances are a testament to their hard work and the show came together as a beautiful set of the very best young musicians in London.”
