Spotlight’s Ade Akande wins Tower Hamlets Together Award 2023

On the 7 December 2023, Spotlight’s leader of our Get Active programme Ade Akande won the Tower Hamlets Together, Integrated Care Award.

He was given the Bullseye Award for outstanding work with a Person Centred approach. This nomination focused on his work on the Complications of excess weight project but also for his contributions over the last 8 years in the borough working with young people.

Nominator Treaser Jassal said:

“Ade is an inspirational person and is someone who puts young people first in all that he does. He focuses on a person-centred approach, working with the young people and their families to support them with coaching, advice, and signposting to relevant services.

He works with young people not only on their physical health needs but also with their social and emotional needs, supporting them to access activities and achieve their set goals. He does this through relationship and trust building, helping young people feel comfortable to open up.”

Did you know at Spotlight we offer an amazing range of support options for young people to encourage a healthy lifestyle through our Get Active programme.

Our Get Active programme offers accessible and flexible support including one to one support, Fit Club sessions, Beginners Boxing, Dance, Skate Boarding, Football, Basketball and Healthy Eating through Lunch Club and more. Our programmes are tailored to young people in a way that is fun and social within their peer group.

Spotlight is a space for young people only that also helps them access fitness in a supported environment, with the motivation and support of specially trained youth workers.

We are here to support young people with excess weight concerns while having a focus on building up self-esteem and supporting positive mental and emotional wellbeing.
