Online Opportunities For Young People: May 2021 Part One

We’ve gathered together all the latest opportunities for young people out there to give you skills, enhance your CV and keep you busy:

 

New Opportunities for young people: 

 

We’re collaborating with Bikeworks to bring you Build-a-Bike, a FREE activity for young people that explores everything you need to know about the fundamentals of cycle maintenance and repairs, plus essential theory and practice required when cycling in and around urban areas. All participants will either cycle away with their entry-level bike provided or called into Spotlight to pick it up on another day. Deadline: 5pm, 21st May. Apply here. 

Join IGD’s virtual work experience week to gain skills and experience to add to your CV, and expand your network, by interacting with industry professionals. Apply here.

Are you 18-24 and have 12 hours a week to spare? If so then the FastFutures programme is for you (your background and how well you did in school doesn’t matter). This programme is free and will give you a head start in the workplace through mentoring, virtual site visits, team projects and mock interviews. Apply here.

Rich Mix’s ‘Stuck In The Lift – Artist Callout’ is a new artist development programme in partnership with Rich Mix. Our joint aims are to support the reinvigoration of our local creative community post-pandemic. We’re interested in YOUR vision and supporting YOUR creative process. Deadline: 12pm, Friday 14th May. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)* have developed an ‘Aspiring Professionals Programme’ which is a paid four-week summer placement starting in July 2021. IOPC Aspiring Professionals will work as part of a team on an equality project that will help the police to engage better with diverse communities. They will also gain experience of working in the public sector and receive guidance that will help with future applications to permanent IOPC positions. Apply here.

The BFI Future Film Festival – Film Freeway is now open for submissions! Are you 16-25? Do you have a short film in any genre, 10 minutes or under in length. The film needs to have been produced in the last two years and be an interesting and original concept, with good production values and an entertaining subject matter. Selected films will screen at BFI Future Film Festival 2022 and have the chance to win one of our 10 BFI Future Film Festival awards, which include cash prizes, mentoring and kit. Are you a young creative who isn’t in education, employment or training and are 19-24? Then Spotlight has the perfect training programme for you! We are partnering with YCUK to run a FREE 6 week training programme that’ll provide you with everything you need to start a career in the creative industry, including film, music, digital media, advertising and communications!  Programme running: 26th April – 31st May. The Skills Toolkit | Find a course | National Careers Service are offering you the chance to improve or learn new skills during this third and (hopefully) final lockdown! The National Careers Service has given access to FREE courses to help individuals to learn new skills, such as Practical Maths, Computer Essentials, Coding, and more.

Partnership for Young London are running a survey for young people aged 16-25 living in London to find out how you feel about issues including the pandemic, employment, housing and the media. There are over 50 prizes available, and winners will be announced in April. Complete it here.

The Inverse Apprentice is a creative entrepreneurship programme provoked by the TV show ‘The Apprentice’. Our format, in contrast to the TV programme, is led entirely by the participants – Tower Hamlets residents. If you are interested in joining the project as a participant, aged 18 or over and based in Tower Hamlets – apply here.

Bromley by Bow Centre X Spotlight are bring you the opportunity to earn an Active IQ Level 1 Award in Influencing Health and Wellbeing. This qualification will enable you to make positive changes in your own health as well as others in the community, you will build self-esteem and also make new connections.
