Find out what Spotlight youth work programmes you can access under Tier 3

What is the new guidance for youth services and what does this mean for Spotlight?

On December 16 2020 London moved from Tier 2 into Tier 3 of the new system. Despite this change, the youth work Spotlight can offer remains the same.

We are following the National Youth Agency’s (NYA) guidelines for youth services closely, which have now detailed two separate sets of guidance for under 18s and 18s and over. Our service works with 11 – 19s and young people aged up to 25 year olds who have SEND, so we are following the guidelines for both age groups. Find out what they are below:

The NYA alert level is at AMBER for under 18s which means we can deliver:

  • Online and digital youth services.
  • Detached/outdoor local youth services.
  • 1-2-1 sessions with high-need young people (indoors).
  • Small group work session indoors with high need young people. (consistent with social distancing guidelines).
  • Open access or targeted group sessions delivered indoors (15+ workers/leaders).

The NYA alert level is at RED for 18* and overs which means we can deliver:

  • Online and digital youth services.
  • Detached/outdoor local youth services.
  • 1-2-1 sessions with high-need young people (indoors).
  • Support groups indoors are permitted for vulnerable young people. A maximum of 15 young people per group plus staff.

* SEND young people who are 18 or over come under the RED guidance

Spotlight youth centres following social distancing rules

Alongside this we are continuing to ensure that our youth centres are Covid secure:

  • Carried out a Covid-19 risk assessment and made sure staff members are briefed on the results.
  • Controlling the number of young people in each space in the buildings.
  • Hand sanitiser will be provided at entrances.
  • Anti-bacterial cleaning of surfaces, doors and door handles.
  • Clear signage on social distancing
  • Wearing face coverings

Before you arrive:

  • Go to our What’s On page and book a programme in advance
  • Bring a face covering with you
  • Stay at home if you’re advised to do so by NHS Test and Trace or if you or anyone in your household is experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19 (dry cough, temperature, loss of taste or smell)

When you are in the building it’s important you do these things for everyone’s safety:

  • Scan the QR code (for Track and Trace) when you arrive in the building.
  • Wear a face covering.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser.
  • Keep two metres apart wherever possible.
  • Don’t congregate in corridors.
  • Listen to Spotlight staff and follow their guidance.
